Why Every Couple Should Book an Engagement Shoot Before the Wedding

Why Every Couple Should Book an Engagement Shoot Before the Wedding

So, you’re engaged (woohoo ). And now… the questions start rolling in.
“Have you picked a date?” “Have you booked your venue?” “Who’s doing your photos?”

Before you get buried in spreadsheets and timelines, I want to offer you a little something that might actually help you breathe a bit:
An engagement shoot.

And no, this isn’t just about ticking another box. It’s about giving yourselves a moment to just be together, soak it all in, and get a feel for what your wedding photos could be like (without the pressure).

1. It’s a low-pressure way to ease into photos

Let’s be real being in front of a camera can feel a bit weird.
Most couples I work with say the same thing at the start:
“We’re awkward in photos.”
“We’ve never done this before.”
“What do we do with our hands?!”

This is totally normal and exactly why engagement shoots are so helpful. It’s a chilled session where you get to experience how I work, how the camera feels, and how flipping easy it is to get photos that actually feel like you. I have couples say this all the time and end up LOVING their engagement shoot photos and using them for save the dates, thank you cards and also just for keepsakes.

They always comment about how incredible the photos turned out, way beyond their expectations because when you have a photographer (AKA ME) who knows how to keep it candid, capture the natural and the in-between moments, we get to see a glimpse of you and your relationship shine through.

2. You’ll feel way more relaxed on the wedding day

By the time your wedding rolls around, we’ll have already hung out, shared some laughs, and figured out what works best for you on camera.

This means less posing, less awkwardness, and more of the good stuff like you two genuinely enjoying your day and forgetting the camera is even there.

It’s like a practice run, without any of the pressure.

3. You’ll walk away with beautiful, everyday memories

Your wedding day will be big and beautiful and probably a little bit hectic.
But your engagement shoot? It’s slower. It’s quieter.
It’s just the two of you in a spot you love maybe at golden hour, maybe by the beach, maybe in your backyard with beers in hand.

You’ll have photos that celebrate this part of your story before the whirlwind begins.

4. It helps us vibe before the big day

Wedding photography is super personal. You don’t want a stranger showing up with a camera you want someone you feel comfy around, who gets your dynamic, and who knows when to jump in or hang back.

Engagement shoots help build that trust. We chat, shoot, maybe grab a coffee (or wine after), and just get to know each other.

5. It’s fun (and secretly meaningful)

It gives you a chance to experiment with poses, see what you like, what you don’t. Like yes get out that Pinterest board and show me!
Just a little adventure where we hang out, you wear whatever makes you feel good, and I quietly capture all the in-between moments.

It’s fun. It’s honest. And it’s a chance to hit pause and connect before the real planning begins.

Thinking about it? Here’s the easiest way to start.

If you’re keen to see what it’s like to work together, booking an engagement shoot is the best first step. It’s low-commitment, super fun, and gives you stunning images of this in-between chapter.
